Thirty years of December in this city. We have run holiday parties for law firms, hedge funds, PR agencies and accounting firms, from parties in their own offices to 2,000 guests in a Chelsea event space, and we are booking this season now.
A holiday party is not a normal corporate event
Some companies call it the holiday party, some call it the Christmas party. Either way the room is the same. Everyone is in it: the founder, the new starter, the team that never leaves the third floor. They span forty years in age and a dozen musical tastes, half of them are nervous about dancing in front of their boss, and there is usually a speech and an award or two to get through first.
That room is what we do. Dave Swirsky has DJ’d New York holiday parties since 1992, and the job is reading who is actually in front of you: background music that lets people talk over dinner, a clean handover for the speeches, then the first song that gets the whole company on the floor and keeps them there.

Holiday party FAQs
As early as you can. December fills from the top down, and the busiest nights go first, so companies that book in September and October get the widest choice. If your party is weeks away, still ask: we often can help, and we will tell you straight away if we cannot.
There is no standard price. It comes down to how long you need us, how big the room is, and whether you add karaoke, a photo booth, uplighting or live musicians. Send us the date, the venue and a rough headcount and we will come back with a figure for exactly what your night needs.
We have worked most of the rooms companies use in December: Gotham Hall, the Metropolitan Pavilion, Tribeca Rooftop, the Hilton Midtown Grand Ballroom, Bryant Park Grill, City Winery, Del Frisco’s and the Hunt & Fish Club, as well as plenty of office floors. The ones that work give people something to do besides stand and talk. Karaoke is the best icebreaker we know for an office party. A photo booth gives the people who will never dance a reason to join in. Uplighting in your company colors changes a plain room more than anything else for the money. And live musicians over the DJ set lift the cocktail hour without taking over the night.
Yes, and it is worth planning properly. We provide the microphones and the sound, work the formalities into the running order, and manage the handover so the room settles for the speeches and lifts again afterwards.
By reading the room rather than playing a fixed list. A typical holiday party of ours moves across decades and genres, and at one recent law firm party that meant pop, reggae, salsa, merengue, disco, Motown, rock and soca in the same night.
This is what karaoke is for. At office parties it breaks the ice faster than anything else, and it gives the people who will never dance something to join in with. We mix dance music between the singers so the night keeps moving.
